The Jackal's Deception
A Jackal and a Goat were traveling together. They came to a village where a wedding feast was being held. The Jackal told the Goat, "Wait here. I will go and get us some food." The Jackal went to the feast and told the people, "My poor friend the Goat is very sick and is about to die. He begs you to send him one last meal as a final act of kindness." The people, feeling pity, gave the Jackal a huge portion of food, which he took into the bush and ate himself. He returned to the Goat with nothing. "The people are wicked," the Jackal said. "They refused to give us anything." The Goat was suspicious. The next day, the Goat went into the village and told the people, "My friend the Jackal is a great musician. If you bring him a drum, he will play for your feast." The people, excited, brought a drum to the Jackal. The Jackal, who could not play, was forced to beat the drum awkwardly, making a terrible noise. The villagers, realizing they had been tricked the day before, became angry and chased the Jackal out of the village, while the clever Goat was invited to join the feast.
