The Lion's Share
The Lion, the Hyena, and the Goat decided to go hunting together, agreeing to share whatever they caught equally. They worked together and managed to kill a large Buffalo. The Lion, as the king of the beasts, was chosen to divide the meat. "I will make three shares," said the Lion, as he skillfully butchered the carcass. He pointed to the first pile. "This first share," he declared, "is mine, because I am your king." He then pointed to the second pile. "This share is also mine, for my part in the hunt." Then he looked at the last pile and growled, "And as for this third share... touch it if you dare!" The Goat and the Hyena looked at the Lion's claws and his sharp teeth, and they looked at each other. Without a word, they backed away slowly and went home hungry. From this comes the expression "the lion's share," meaning the biggest and best part of something, taken by the most powerful.
