The Hyena and the Hare's Wrestling Match

The Hyena (Bouki), who was strong but foolish and greedy, declared himself the wrestling champion of the animal kingdom. The Hare (Leuk), who was small but famously clever, challenged him to a match. Everyone expected the Hyena to win easily. On the day of the match, the Hare arrived, but he had coated his entire body in slippery, foul-smelling fish oil. When the match began, the Hyena could not get a grip on the Hare. Every time he tried to grab him, the Hare would slip right out of his grasp. The Hyena grew more and more frustrated and exhausted, chasing the slippery Hare around the ring. Finally, the Hyena collapsed from exhaustion. The Hare, who had not even been touched, was declared the winner. The story is a famous part of the Leuk-ak-Bouki cycle of tales, teaching that cleverness and preparation can easily defeat brute, unprepared strength.
