Anansi and the Dueling Cloaks

Anansi the Spider and a Goat were to attend a great funeral. The Goat had a beautiful new cloak. Anansi, jealous, decided to trick him. Anansi announced, "My cloak has a name. It is called 'I-am-the-one-who-is-the-cause-of-it-all'." When they arrived, a dispute broke out over who should get the best seat. The elders, seeing the conflict, asked, "Who is the cause of all this trouble?" Anansi stepped forward proudly and said, "I-am-the-one-who-is-the-cause-of-it-all," pointing to his cloak. The elders, thinking he was confessing to starting the fight, had him thrown out of the funeral. The Goat, meanwhile, was tired of all this. He said, "My cloak also has a name. It is called 'This-is-the-end-of-the-matter'." When another argument began, the chief stood up and said, "I want this to be the end of the matter!" The Goat stood up and announced the name of his cloak. The chief was so pleased with the Goat's wisdom and desire for peace that he awarded him the seat of honor and a great portion of the feast, while Anansi went home in disgrace.
