The Elephant and the First Samburu Warrior

An Elephant and a Lion were arguing over who was the true master of the plains. They decided to have a contest. "Whoever can uproot the great acacia tree with one charge will be the master," they agreed. The Lion charged with all his might, but only scratched the bark. The Elephant then charged, and with his great strength, he uprooted the massive tree, proving his power. At that moment, a young Samburu man, the first moran (warrior), walked by. The Elephant, full of pride, trumpeted, "See, man! I am the master of the plains!" The young warrior calmly replied, "You have the strength of the earth, but I have the intelligence of the sky." He then took his spear, and with a single, well-aimed throw, he struck the Elephant in a vulnerable spot, killing the great beast. The Lion, who had witnessed this, was humbled. He acknowledged that while the Elephant had the most strength, the human warrior, with his intelligence and his spear, was the true master of the plains.
