The Rat Who Visited the Cat's Kingdom

A Rat heard of a wondrous kingdom where all the citizens were Cats. He was warned it was a dangerous place, but he was a great adventurer. He disguised himself with a clever costume made of cat fur and went to the kingdom. He was amazed; it was a beautiful city. He was welcomed by the King of the Cats, who did not see through his disguise. The Rat lived in the palace for a week, enjoying the finest food and company. He grew bold. During a great feast, he climbed onto a table to make a speech, but he slipped and fell into a large bowl of cream. The water washed away parts of his disguise, revealing his rat-like ears and tail. A hush fell over the great hall. The King of the Cats looked at him and said, "We have only one law in this kingdom for those who are not cats." He then called his guards. The Rat, through his cleverness, had managed to enter a world where he did not belong, but his true nature was inevitably revealed, with dire consequences. The story is a cautionary tale about overreaching one's station and the dangers of living a lie.
