The Weasel Who Married a Princess
A beautiful Zulu princess refused all her suitors, saying none were handsome enough. One day, a man of incredible beauty, dressed in the finest skins and beads, arrived at her father's kraal. The princess fell in love instantly and they were married. However, her new husband had a secret. He was actually a Weasel who had used powerful magic to disguise himself. He refused to eat normal food and would sneak away at night to hunt for insects and mice. The princess's younger brother was suspicious and followed him one night, discovering his true nature. The boy told the princess, who was horrified. Following the boy's advice, she prepared a special meal of milk and mealies, but she laced it with a magical herb that negates transformations. When the Weasel-man ate it, his magical disguise dissolved, and he was revealed to all as a lowly weasel. He was chased out of the kraal in disgrace. The story is a cautionary tale about being deceived by beautiful appearances and the importance of looking at a suitor's true nature and habits.
