The Hyena Who Wore a Man's Clothes
A Hyena, tired of being a despised scavenger, decided he would live like a man. He stole a man's robe (kanzu) and a hat (kofia) and walked into the village market on his hind legs. At first, the people were so shocked they did not know what to do. The Hyena, full of pride, began to haggle for fish and demand respect. But he could not hide his true nature. His voice was a cackle, not a human voice. He sniffed at the meat stalls with a greedy, lolling tongue. And when a dog barked, he instinctively dropped to all fours and snarled. His disguise was revealed, and the villagers, no longer shocked but angry at the mockery, chased him out of the village with sticks and stones. The story is a humorous but powerful lesson that you cannot change who you are simply by changing your clothes. Your true nature will always be revealed by your voice, your habits, and your instincts.
