Anansi and the Disputed Farm
Anansi the Spider and the Crow decided to make a farm together. They cleared the land, planted yams, and tended the crops. When it was time for the harvest, they dug up a huge pile of yams. "Now, we must divide them," said the Crow. "No," said the greedy Anansi. "Let us have a contest of names. Whoever has the most impressive name gets all the yams." The Crow agreed. Anansi puffed out his chest and declared, "My name is 'The-son-of-the-one-who-weaves-the-sky-and-catches-the-rain'." It was a long and impressive name. The Crow was silent for a moment. Then he drew himself up and said, "And my name is 'So-what-are-you-going-to-do-about-it?'." Anansi was stumped. His long name meant nothing against the Crow's simple, unanswerable challenge. He could not fight the Crow, and he could not argue. Defeated by simple, direct logic, Anansi had to concede the entire harvest to the clever Crow.
