Tsuro and the Lion's Waterhole

During a great drought, the Lion declared that the last remaining waterhole belonged to him alone. He guarded it fiercely. Tsuro the Hare, seeing the other animals dying of thirst, devised a plan. He found a large gourd and filled it with sticky, sweet honeycomb. He then went to the waterhole, acting as if he wasn't interested in the water. "Greetings, Great King," Tsuro said. "I am just passing by on my way to the great feast of honey." The Lion, who loved honey, was intrigued. "What honey?" he demanded. "It is a secret," said Tsuro, "but I will share it with you." He gave the Lion the gourd. The Lion greedily stuck his whole head inside to lick the honey, getting his entire mane and face covered in the sticky mess. While the Lion was blinded and distracted, trying to clean himself, Tsuro called out to all the other animals who were hiding nearby. They all came and drank their fill from the waterhole. Tsuro had used the tyrant's own greed to provide for the entire community.
