The Beehive and the Monkey's Greed
A Monkey discovered a huge beehive in the hollow of a tree, filled with rich honey. He kept the location a secret and would go there every day to eat his fill. He grew fat and lazy. A group of hunters from the village had been having bad luck and their children were hungry. They prayed to Jengi, the forest spirit, for help. The next day, one of the hunters followed the Monkey's trail and discovered the secret beehive. He returned to the village, and the people came and gathered all the honey, which they shared amongst everyone. When the Monkey returned for his daily feast, he found the hive empty. He chattered in anger, but he could do nothing. The forest had provided for the community in their time of need, taking from the one who had hoarded its gift for himself. The story teaches that the forest's bounty belongs to the community, not to the greedy individual.
