The Chameleon's Two-Colored Cloak

A great Yaka chief had two sons who were always arguing. One day, the chief decided to teach them a lesson. He called them to a path in the forest and told them to stand on opposite sides. He then had his servant, the Chameleon, walk down the path between them. The Chameleon wore a special cloak that was bright red on one side and deep blue on the other. When the Chameleon had passed, the chief asked his first son, "What color was the servant's cloak?" "It was red, Father," the son replied. The second son shouted, "No, it was blue!" They began to argue fiercely. The chief stopped them. "You are both right, and you are both wrong," he said. He called the Chameleon back and had it turn around, showing both colors. "You each saw only one side of the truth and were so sure you were right that you did not consider that the other might have seen something different. A good leader must be able to see all sides of an issue before making a judgment."
