Kalulu and the Lion's Cave

A powerful Lion declared himself king and demanded that all animals bring him a daily tribute of food. The animals were suffering under this tyranny. Kalulu the Hare came up with a plan. He went to the Lion and said, "Great King, I have brought your tribute, but a rogue lion, who claims to be the true king, stole it from me on the way here. He is hiding in that deep well over there and dares you to challenge him." The Lion, full of pride and rage, stalked to the well and looked down. He saw his own reflection in the water and believed it was the other lion. With a mighty roar of challenge, the Lion leaped into the well to attack his rival, and he drowned. The clever Hare had defeated the tyrant not with strength, but by using the Lion's own pride against him. The other animals were freed from their obligation and hailed Kalulu as their hero.
